The choker trend has been back for quite a while now, but it has definitely taken me a while to warm to it. It freaked me out that this is a trend that I lived through, and I remember wearing the exact black stretchy chokers when I was about ten years old. It would definitely feel weird buying an accessory that ten year old me thought was cool, surely I’ve become more stylish now!
But what got me fully on board with the choker trend was the styles that weren’t as prominent when I was ten. The subtle velvet and shoelace style ones are much cooler than anything I would have worn. Also the lace chokers I saw on instagram and pinterest really converted me. So I decided it would be an easy DIY project and if I made my own choker it would be a way to re-invent the trend for myself and not feel so old!
2. Carefully cut out the clasps with a scalpel/scissors. Whatever works for you.
3. Thread your needle.
4. Sew on the hook part of the clasps on the back of the lace, within the space marked by your safety pins.
5. Sew on the opposite part of the clasps on the front of the lace, lining up with the hooks you just put on.
And Voila! Style whatever way you want! Here is a sneak peek of how the choker will feature in my next outfit post.
