Happy Mother’s Day – My Mom’s Visit to NYC

Mother visits NYC

My Mom Visited the Big Apple

I can’t believe it’s been a month since my Mom arrived in NYC! Time flies so fast over here, you really have to appreciate every second. She arrived on a Wednesday evening and I couldn’t wait to leave work and meet her at the airport. I hadn’t seen her in four months, which is the longest we haven’t seen each other since I came into existence! It was so good to have her here and having visitors gets you out of the rut of getting the subway to work and home again every evening, and you go and do things. New York things!

Over the next few days we ate waffles and pancakes for breakfast in Pietro Nolita and went to see Bell X1 in the Bowery Ballroom. We can’t go anywhere without going to a concert, it’s an addiction I’ve happily inherited! We went to see “Kinky Boots” on Broadway which was amazing, the perfect balance of sassiness and sweetness. To keep the musical theme going we had dinner after the show in Ellen’s Stardust Diner. The wait staff here are talented stars waiting to get their big break and they perform for as you eat. There is such feel good atmosphere there and I will never forget coming across the place during my first trip to New York in 2011 not knowing what a magical place I had stumbled across!

The Highline in Chelsea is somewhere I had never been so I put that on our list, and it worked out perfectly as a spot for a little mother daughter photoshoot! Since, she was leaving during the afternoon on the Sunday I decided we should make to most of the morning and get up at 5am to watch the sun rise over the Brooklyn bridge. We spent a great morning in Dumbo, its really nice to walk around New York when it’s really quiet and empty. All in all, we had a great time and having visitors regularly has given me something to look forward to on stressful New York days.

Because of Her

In the spirit of Mother’s Day I wanted to share a two of my favourite things about my mom that have gotten me to where I am today:

  • Creativity – She is the most creative and inventive person I know I 100% got my creativity from her. It’s put me on the path of finding a career and life I love.
  • Hardwork – She is the definition of a hard-worker and as a Mother she has definitely instilled that in her children. If you want something, work for it, end of story. And things mightn’t always go your way after hard work but you’ve just got to keep on going.

If theres anything I want to emulate in my life it is those two things and I am lucky to have someone like her as an example. My mom gets a raw deal around this time of year as Mother’s day always falls within a week or two of her birthday. So Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Birthday! I love you so much!
